Report your sightings
of Squirrels
Even if you're not a member or registered surveyor we would
encourage you to submit your sightings
of any squirrels you see.
It doesn't matter if you're not absolutely certain about
what you've seen, as long as you give as much information
as you can.
We need all and any sightings, no matter how tenuous, to help
build a better picture of squirrel distribution throughout
the Highland region; and will verify all sightings before
they are entered into our data base.
Grey Squirrels are encroaching on the east of the area, and
if you are uncertain about the differences between the two
species, you can find information here.
Volunteer Surveyors urgently required
The HRSG provides training for anyone who wishes to take a
practical part in this project. You will be able to learn
how to recognise squirrels and the signs they leave when feeding
and moving around the forest. You will also find out why certain
survey techniques are used to ensure meaningful data which
can be applied for scientific and statistical analysis.
You will get an opportunity to do rewarding and worthwhile
work which could also help towards a career in nature conservation.

Help with Promotion and
Fund Raising
An important aspect of the group's work is promotion of the
Red Squirrel as a species, to raise public awareness and increase
its profile among those who manage and work within its environment.
The HRSG will become increasingly active, over the coming
years, creating a presence at shows and events throughout
the Scottish Highlands, for promotion and fund raising.
If you feel that you could help with this type of activity
we would be eager to hear from you - contact
Juliet Robinson for details.
